What is the difference between put and place ?

Main Post: What is the difference between put and place ?

Top Comment: It is now there because that is where he placed it.) placed has more to do with a location. put has more to do with the action. "where should I put it?" "place it there." also, to me, placing is a more gentle motion. more careful. But if I really had to get down to it, place is more poetic.

What is the difference between put and lay and place and set ?

Main Post: What is the difference between put and lay and place and set ?

Top Comment: Synonym for put It's mostly a gut thing, but I'd say it depends on the type of object and manner/area of placement. They're all very similar, and I'd say "put", "place", and "set" can almost be used interchangeably. All four also have slighly different connotations for the level of care/gentleness ...

Best place to put down your dog

Main Post:

So unfortunately we are at that place where we are going to have to put down our dog soon. She is obviously very loved and it is hard for us. She is also our first pet, so this is all new. I was thinking that we should have someone come in the house and do it, so that she would be comfortable in her own bed. Also it would be better for us as a family (myself, mother, and sister) because we’d have privacy and could cry without being embarrassed. But my mom thinks it’s a bad idea because it’ll create a bad memory for us in whatever room it happens in. Especially because my sister is very sensitive. I think regardless, every room will have memories of our dog. My mom thinks it should be at the vet’s office.

Can you guys share your thoughts and experiences on this? Thanks in advance!

I’m so sorry for all of you that have lost loved ones. I am so thankful for your feedback.

Update: Firstly, I wanted to thank you all for sharing your stories. It can’t have been easy thinking about some really hard experiences and memories. They were extremely helpful and I am actually amazed at how so many people recommended to do it at home (as this is my first pet, I’ve never known anything about it before). This has made me want to fight for our baby to go at home, especially because she is still traumatized from a recent hospitalization. I have started to talk with my sister, who I think is more open to the idea.

Regardless, I think like many of you said, I will have memories of her in the house anyways. She sleeps in my bed, so how can I ever forget that right? A pet weaves themselves into our lives in every aspect and that is something that cannot ever be forgotten (in a good way).

I’m sorry if I didn’t respond to every single one of your posts, but again I’m very sorry for all of you that have suffered the loss of a loved one. Thank you for your kind words. Bella and I appreciate it ❤️ 🐶

Top Comment: I've assisted in hundreds of deaths as a vet tech. I can tell you 100% that the animals put to sleep at home are more relaxed and less stressed out. If you can schedule a house call, that's the best way to go. I'm sorry for your loss.

What is the legality around putting up signs in public places? MA

Main Post:

If I wanted to put up non-political, non-commercial signs or posters around a specific part of town in Massachusetts, what laws would apply to that? Do I need to apply for any protest permits to post signage pertaining to a particular controversial issue?

Can I be charged with any crime for posting signs assuming I remain entirely on public property?

In terms of “public property”, what does the grass between a sidewalk and street count as? Is it a right-of-way or an easement and what would be the specific law around that?

Top Comment:

City ordinances or codes. There may be county or state laws around signage, but those are very rare.

Do I need to apply for any protest permits to post signage pertaining to a particular controversial issue?

The "protest" portion is probably irrelevant - some cities will need you to have a permit to post signs in certain areas. Also - the type of sign may be relevant; not what's on the sign, but it's size, method of posting (tape, stake in the ground, held on a stick, etc), and material may also be specified. For example, it may be legal to pin small flyers to a public notice board, but not glue a plastic sign to same notice board.

Can I be charged with any crime for posting signs assuming I remain entirely on public property?

Sure. Littering and vandalism are the first that spring to mind, if you are posting signs that are unwanted or damage the surface you post them on. Just because you're on "public property" does not mean that you can do anything you want. Also, if you are in violation of any city ordinances or codes about posting signs, you may be charged in accordance with those codes (usually it's a fine).

It depends on the city whether this is owned by the city or the property next to the sidewalk. You will need to check your city codes and ordinances.

Is it a right-of-way or an easement and what would be the specific law around that?

Your city codes and ordinances. And just because something might be an easement or similar does not automatically grant you the right to sit on it, protest on it, or post signs on it.

You need to do your research into your cities rules as part of planning out your protest.

Main Post:

so theres a file called system and its where you put the consoles (i need to know where i can get game cube files)

Top Comment: You've got no chance of emulating GameCube games on a system as old as the 3DS. It's far, far too weak.

Putting air purifier at the corner?

Main Post:

Hii I'm considering buying an air purifier for the studio apartment that I'll soon move into. The suggested layout is like this:

Studio Layout

Would it be okay for me to put the air purifier at the corner where the floor lamp is? I have never used an air purifier before so would appreciate some pointers! Thank you!

Top Comment: I'd put it between the table and the sofa. It's closer to the center of the apartment where air circulates better. Also doesn't seem like a place where it would bother you.
